Whenever I peek at the calendar, I find it so hard to believe that we are only three months into 2021. It is said that time flies when you’re having fun but I wouldn’t necessarily say that is the root of my astonishment. My biggest surprise is how weary my body is three months into the year. Sure, I may have expected that living in a pandemic would take its toll on our mental health but wow… my body is sure tired! I found myself trying to figure out a leave schedule in order to get a break however my body simply could not wait for such an extended leave. That is why I decided to take a random Monday off from work to focus on self-care. I’m sure feeling this way is not an anomaly which is why I hope that this post will point you into the right and relaxing direction.
During self-care days, I make sure to do things which allow my mind to rest and realign with the body and soul. This is why a spa day sounded like the perfect fit for me! I have been blessed enough to experience various spa’s but this one made it on the blog because they are currently running a March special (but they also typically run amazing specials on a regular basis). Saving my coins is what I am all about! So, the tip around this trip is that you really can find a spa day without breaking the bank!
This month’s spa day review takes a closer look at Mangwanani African Spa - River Valley branch. They are currently running a ‘me time’ special during the month of March where you can book a full day spa date (mid-week treat) for R 999,00 pp. Should you miss the March special, keep your eyes open for other upcoming specials which you’ll be sure to love.
Trust me on this!

The mid-week treat begins with the spa arranging for your pick up at Montecasino (Fourways, Johannesburg) where you are greeted with snacks and bubbles as you wait for the champers. Thereafter you are whisked away for a scenic drive to the spa.
Tip: When going to the spa, rather opt for the pickup option as the road to get there is gravel and using your car may not be the best option.
Upon your arrival, you are welcomed by African feel dance from the employees filled with drums and harmonies. You then proceed to check in and breakfast is served. Breakfast includes the regular tea/coffee, muffins, muesli and yoghurt etc. Nothing out of the ordinary.
You are then prompted to change into your complimentary gown and slippers where your day will play out a little something like this:
You are guided to your treatments. Mine were in this order:
o Treatment 1–Royal African foot therapy
o Treatment 2–Traditional full body massage with hot stones
o Treatment 3 –Relaxing pressure point facial
Lunch is then served. I opted for the chicken wrap and bottomless champagne. Dessert is available but my focus was more on the bubbles (haha)
Tip: Feel free to enjoy bottomless drinks throughout the entire day as these have already been included in your payment. Avoid drinking and driving though. After all, we are trying to be safe and responsible
You are then guided to your final 2 treatments. Mine consisted of the following:
o Treatment 4 - Spa body exfoliation treatment
o Treatment 5 –Royal African hand massage
o Treatment 6 - African head, neck and shoulder massage
All in all, I had an amazing day at this spa. I probably enjoyed a million naps throughout the
treatments but honestly, the entire experience gave me everything that I needed: A day of calm and rest!
Key tips and/or considerations:
Bring a swimsuit to enjoy the jacuzzi available on site
Remember to stay hydrated (drink water during your treatments)
There are numerous monkeys on site so if you have a fear of these then you might not enjoy yourself to the fullest
Be prepared to be one with nature and have a blast

Anyway, see you soon. Byeeeee :) :)
Thanks for the plug ❤️
